What does a News API do?

There is an overwhelming amount of news published every day, ranging from the international mainstream media to longtail specialist and local publications. Obviously, it is practically impossible to manually process such a large amount of data, let alone find what you’re looking for within it and then operationalize the data. A high-quality News API solves all these problems.  

The first job a News API does is aggregating global news. This removes the need to negotiate and maintain often complex commercial licenses with publishers at scale. When a news article is published, it is ingested by the News API.  

The second job a News API does is transform unstructured news articles into structured news data, by using machine learning and natural language processing, effectively providing access to an ever-growing news database that can be searched and filtered with sophisticated queries that return more significantly more relevant results than e.g. a Google search.  

The third job a News API does is to help operationalize that data by making integration easy. News API outputs JSON objects which can be easily integrated into machine learning models or analyst-facing applications.
