Accelerated, instructor-led training for future Quantexa Data Engineers
Becoming a competent Quantexa Data Engineer goes beyond understanding individual Platform features and technical concepts. Learners need to see how those capabilities fit together across the end-to-end implementation.
More importantly, gaining competence requires opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in practice - by trying things out, building solutions, occasionally failing, and eventually succeeding. This process can be greatly facilitated by the presence of experienced instructors who offer feedback and personalized support along the way.
Quantexa Data Engineer Velocity (Velocity) is an accelerated, instructor-led route through the Quantexa Data Engineer Academy.
It combines structured instructor-led workshops (delivered in Quantexa’s HO or at the customer’s premises), practical exercises, independent tasks, time for knowledge consolidation, and assessment support. All of these help learners develop the skills and practical experience needed to earn the Quantexa Data Engineer certification.
Why do we need the Velocity program?
The two key differences between the standard DE Academy and the Velocity program are the average completion times and the optimized learning experience.
The Velocity program has been designed as accelerated enablement, shortening the time to certification and project readiness. This is achieved through learners making a high-focus effort in specific blocks of time under the direct supervision of the instructor present in the room. It’s a structured, disciplined learning experience that helps maintain momentum and accountability in one’s learning.
Learners can ask questions, receive immediate feedback, and get personalized support as they work through technical concepts and hands-on activities. Equally important is the motivation received from the instructor and the energizing quality of working in a group of colleagues.
Two learning pathways
The upgraded Velocity program adopts the modular structure of the Data Engineer Academy (Release 2) and offers two routes:
Core Entity Resolution (ER)
Core ER focuses on the foundational Data Engineering capabilities required to ingest, transform, and resolve data.
The standard Core ER Velocity program runs over three weeks, combining an instructor-led workshop block with a remote period for practical work. Workshops are deliberately interspersed with time for consolidation and assessment support, allowing learners to practice what they have learned before moving to the next stage.
Core Platform
Core Platform builds on the complete Core ER journey and extends learning into UI configuration and Scoring.
The program runs over four weeks with two instructors available, combining two instructor-led workshop blocks with remote periods dedicated to practical work, task support, consolidation, Q&A, and assessment support.
Velocity workshops have “work” in them
We designed each Velocity workshop as a learning experience, rather than a lecture. Each of them contains:
- Explanations and demonstrations provided by the instructor
- Guided hands-on activities with access to a VDI
- Independent exercises involving problem-solving tasks
- Project-based work
- Consolidation time
- Q&A
- Assessment support
This model is designed to give learners opportunities to try each concept and approach, with instructor support readily available. The standard delivery model uses two instructors, with one leading instruction while the other supports learners with tasks, troubleshooting, and assessment preparation.
Prerequisites and certification
As is the case with “traditional” DEA, Velocity candidates are expected to have a fundamental understanding of Scala and Spark before they start. They can demonstrate this through the Scala and Spark assessment, with the Scala and Spark Bootcamp available as an accelerated route to obtaining the prerequisite skills.
Velocity remains an assessed certification pathway, leading to obtaining the Quantexa Certified Data Engineer: Core ER or Core Platform Certification.
